Launching my portfolio improvement programme…

Recently, I've been receiving a few messages from graduates and junior IDs asking me to review their portfolios and provide feedback.

I get it, graduations over, you’ve got your degree, applied for a few jobs and the competition is quite high out there.

But here’s the thing…

I'd like to take a more structured approach rather than just reviewing portfolios over LinkedIn and sending messages back and forth with suggested improvements.

For graduates and junior IDs, I want to offer feedback in a constructive and easy-to-follow way. I realise that every designer dreads working on their portfolio; it can be an arduous and stressful process. Nonetheless, your portfolio is your advertisement and should showcase your true value. It needs the show off the work that you are most proud of and as much as we hate doing them, portfolio’s are critical in the earlier stages of your design career.

It’s important that you’re showcasing your work and demonstrating your skills in the best possible way. It’s impossible for potential employers to understand the value you offer and where you could potentially fit in if this is unclear.

…I didn’t work in a design consultancy straight out of University.

In fact, it took me a little while, to be honest. It was always my dream to work in a fast-paced studio environment where the work was ever-changing. I loved the idea of never-ending versatility and facing different design challenges every day. It took me a good few years and multiple portfolio iterations until I was able to get my body of work up to the required standard and finally get my foot in the door.

I understand what makes a good portfolio and what potential employers will be looking for…

This can be difficult when you've been looking at the same body of work for a while. I'll offer a different perspective and share my feedback in an actionable and constructive way. Having spent a few years in different consultancies, I can evaluate your portfolio and provide helpful advice from the other side of the table.

Over the years, I've seen quite a few portfolios, and my goal is to give you the tools to position yourself in the best possible way when showcasing your work, highlighting your value, and demonstrating the skills you have to offer potential employers.

The programme has just been launched and will operate on a first come, first serve basis. You can sign up and find out more here.
